Q:
How does gasboys manage user names?
A:
You have three gasboys 'identifiers' on gasboys.
Your 'user name' is the name you type in to log-in and is chosen by you when you create an account. This field is kept private from others.
Your 'user ID' is a number that gasboys assigned to you. It is the identifier that gasboys uses in the database to track your activity.
Your 'alias' is the your 'public' name. Other uses will see you referred to by this name in activity reports and editing logs. If your privacy is important to you then you should make up a nick name, or just allow gasboys to create an alias based on your user ID.
This may seem unnecessarily complicated at first glance, but the rationale is to protect users' rights to privacy by enabling users to chose to be completely anonymous.
